"The dead dance with the dead, and the ashes spin with the ashes."
[Anomaly Story]
"First Confirmation"
During the Scarlet Letter incident, Bureau personnel observed for the first time a massive, pitch-black coffin whose appearance matched no known anomaly. The only confirmable information mainly comes from the testimony of the Dimension Visitor. Roughly two hundred years ago, as a bystander, she witnessed the elimination process of the Fogden Game. From all the participants, only one woman, Inanna, survived to the end. As the victor, Inanna entered into a contract with a black coffin. The black coffin described by the Dimension Visitor matches the object discovered in this operation in both looks and traits. On this basis, we believe that the black coffin discovered in this operation is the same anomaly, the Fog Coffin, she witnessed two hundred years ago.
During this incident, the Fog Coffin was ritually awakened by Madam T, the leader of the Scarlet Letter. Madam T is the "Inanna" mentioned in the Dimension Visitor's testimony; she won the Fogden game two hundred years ago and entered into a contract with the coffin, which gives her the Offering Right to awaken the coffin. The ritual was carried out in the underground space of an abandoned building. Madam T offered up three anomalies: the Helm of Theseus, the Eternal Present, and the First Branch, and submitted her handwritten rules. Once the offerings and the rules were taken in by the Fog Coffin, the coffin door opened, presenting a portal to the Fogden. The portal stayed open for about an hour. Anyone who entered during that time automatically became a participant.
During this round of the game, several participants witnessed ■■■■ appear in the Fogden. The Fog Coffin's avatar and enforcer, the Fog Coffin Colossus, designated ■■■■ as its primary target and fought it, yet was ultimately destroyed by ■■■■. With the enforcer gone, the Fogden's Anomalous Realm began to collapse. At the same time, the Fog Coffin, which was still in the real world, crumbled into black dust before everyone.
Henceforth, it has been determined that the Fog Coffin has been nullified.
"The Initial Game"
In subsequent investigations, Madam T's surviving private records, together with statements from members of the Scarlet Letter, gradually pieced together the Fog Coffin's origins. This account did not come from official documentation, but from fragments Madam T herself privately gathered over many years. She called it "The Initial Game."
According to the records, the Fog Coffin first appeared on a nameless, isolated island. The island once held a lighthouse and was guarded by generations of keepers. They made a promise to the villagers on the shore: as long as the light stayed lit, no ship would lose its way. In return, the villagers regularly sent supplies.
Though remote, the coast was still caught in war. Surviving villagers gradually forgot their pact with the lighthouse keepers. No more provisions came, and the lighthouse had long since dimmed.
Until one day, a pitch-black coffin was swept ashore.
No one knew where it came from, or how long it took to arrive. The keeper opened the coffin but found nothing inside, except for a sentence carved into the coffin inside:
"Everyone, let's play a game."
[Characteristics]
It appeared as a massive, pitch-black coffin, with no inscriptions, no ornaments, and no markings. Its material was unknown, and it looked like it was in perfect condition.
When dormant, it remains asleep, and can only be awakened through a specific offering ritual. Awakening requires all of the following conditions to be met:
First, a contract bearer who is qualified to make an offering. The qualification must come from being a previous winner of the Fogden Game and having had formed a contract with the Fog Coffin.
Second, three anomaly artifacts offered by the contract bearer.
Third, written rules submitted in physical form, handwritten by the contractor, its contents being the rules of this Fogden game.
Once awakened, the Fog Coffin opens, revealing a portal leading to the Fogden, which itself is a confined Anomalous Realm. The portal stays open for about an hour. Once it closes, the coffin seals shut again, and it returns back to a dormant state, awaiting the next awakening.
[Anomaly Nexus]
The Fogdame's rules no longer enforceabe; the Fogden's anomalous realm destroyed.
[Risk Assessment]
In its dormancy, the coffin poses no danger. During the ritual, it devours the offerings chosen by the contractor. Once the coffin opens, there is almost zero possibility of survival.
