"Tyranny takes root in the soil of absolute power."

Anomaly Story

St. Arbor is a place name that no longer appears on modern maps. According to historical records, the town was destroyed during a "witch trial," and the Inquisitor, who presided over the trial, disappeared. The historical records surrounding the incident are riddled with inconsistencies, with different versions of the chronicles even contradicting one another on certain points. However, they all agree that the incident marked a major turning point in the surrounding regions' attitudes toward the witch-hunt. Following the incident, witch trials in the surrounding areas gradually declined until they disappeared altogether.

What no one could have expected was that the Inquisitor, who disappeared during the trial, would return to the world in the form of an anomaly.

Anomaly C-8782-6-2[Or], the Inquisitor, was once a human named Cotton. He later became the host of Inquisitor the oddity, and this anomaly is preliminarily identified as one of the derivative anomalies of the anomaly Witch-Hunt. In the unenlightened age when the Inquisitor first emerged, witch trials were commonplace, and people generally attributed their misfortunes to witches. It was in this environment that the unprecedentedly powerful witch-hunt anomaly came into being. Under the influence of the witch-hunt anomaly, those who traveled from place to place in the name of faith, putting witches on trial, were humans who wielded the authority of judgment. Not all of these people became hosts of the anomaly. Most were merely apostles who spread the witch-hunt anomaly among the populace. The trial that took place in St. Arbor, however, not only implicated a great many people but was also disrupted by a "special circumstance," causing the human Cotton to suffer severe Encroachment and become the host of the Inquisitor.

The Inquisitor is the embodiment of humanity's obsession with "judging witches." It can also draw nourishment from people's accusations and attacks, growing ever stronger. It possesses the ability to control flames and uses them to burn those it deems witches. No ordinary human can withstand the Inquisitor's flames, meaning its judgment can continue without end.

The Inquisitor, born in St. Arbor, was imprisoned by the power of ■■■■ and was therefore recorded as missing. Inquisitor recently broke free of its imprisonment and appeared in the real world, bringing the witch-hunt anomaly of that era back with it. However, times have changed, and modern society no longer provides the conditions necessary for the Inquisitor to survive. After the Anomalous Realm was broken, Inquisitor also weakened and was ultimately nullified.

Power breeds desire, and even the exercise of power itself can become a form of desire. Unlike the masses influenced by the witch-hunt anomaly, judges did not have to fear becoming the targets of judgment themselves. Instead, they possessed the power to decide whether ordinary people should live or die. They were not corrupt from the outset. Many genuinely believed that they could protect the people by putting witches on trial. But such beliefs were twisted and exploited by the witch-hunt anomaly, until eventually, the trials themselves became the objective.
