"The Greatest Evil Spirit of All Time!"
Anomaly Story
About thirty years ago, a horror movie became a sensation. In it, an evil spirit used telephones and TVs as mediums to cause a series of terrifying incidents. The movie was highly innovative for its time and caused quite a stir. Many viewers consequently developed a fear of telephones and TVs, worrying that a real evil spirit might appear and possess them.
After the movie became a major hit, people began claiming that their home phones would ring at midnight, their TVs would turn on by themselves for no apparent reason, and that they could even hear something resembling a woman's laughter echoing throughout their homes. Since no actual physical harm had occurred, these incidents were dismissed as pranks or products of the witnesses' imaginations and received little to no attention.
As the movie's popularity waned and old-fashioned telephones and TVs were gradually replaced, reports of such anomalous phenomena also declined sharply, nearly disappearing altogether. In a retrospective investigation, the Bureau determined that the movie's popularity may have given rise to an Anomaly closely resembling the evil spirit depicted in the film, but assumed that it had naturally undergone Nullification as the movie's influence faded.
However, that was not the case.
During an Anomaly crime, an Esper criminal broke into an office building and attempted to attack people, only to be dragged into an Anomalous Realm. Although he eventually escaped, he was critically injured and captured by members of ETD-6.
During the ensuing investigation, several employees of the office building claimed that a mysterious "Ghost Lady" had long haunted the building. She was described as a girl with long hair and side-swept bangs who wore a white dress. She mainly appeared on TVs and computer screens at night, enjoyed playing pranks, and often crawled out of computer screens late at night to frighten employees working overtime. She even caused considerable panic for a while. Aside from frightening people and playing pranks, however, the "Ghost Lady" had never genuinely harmed anyone. Employees who regularly worked late gradually grew used to her presence, and some even talked to her and confided in her about the stress of their work. Not long afterward, an Anomaly incident occurred at the company. One of its senior executives returned to the office late at night for a surprise inspection and inadvertently entered an Anomalous Realm he described as being "filled with TVs playing horror movies." After being thoroughly frightened, he insisted that the company was completely haunted at night. The company's late-night overtime decreased significantly after that, and although there was no evidence directly linking the incident to the "Ghost Lady," the employees were all grateful to her.
However, no one reported seeing the "Ghost Girl" again after the criminal incident. We, therefore, believe that the "Ghost Lady" described by the employees is closely connected to the Anomaly individual known as "Xiaozhen" below, and may even be the same individual.
Anomaly T-5550(Me), named "Xiaozhen" at the Guarantor's request, resides inside an old TV that had been left unused somewhere in the office building where the aforementioned criminal incident occurred.
Xiaozhen can condense energy into physical forms for battle, and can also drag other people into an Anomalous Realm under her control, matching the office employees' description of the "Ghost Girl" fighting the Esper criminal. However, Xiaozhen is a small ghost with the apparent age and stature of a little girl, differing in build and appearance from the white-dressed girl described by the employees, though they do share some similarities. In addition, the Anomaly does not remember what she experienced inside the Anomalous Realm during this incident, which is presumed to have resulted from being injured and weakened in the battle.
Xiaozhen was initially classified as a Bio Anomaly. Only after she was linked to the supernatural phenomena from thirty years ago was she reclassified as a Meme Anomaly. She possesses full intelligence and the ability to communicate. Although she enjoys playing pranks, she has shown no inclination to deliberately harm others. Perhaps because of the circumstances behind the Meme Anomaly's formation, Xiaozhen is extremely committed to playing the role of a "terrifying evil spirit," but… her appearance and personality make it very difficult for anyone to find her frightening. According to Xiaozhen, she was once a "powerful evil spirit," but lost most of her power over time and became what she is today. This also largely matches the Bureau's assessment.
A "concerned citizen" recovered the TV in which Xiaozhen resided from the crime scene. This person is now Xiaozhen's Guarantor and has joined the Prohibition Mobile Unit.
Note 1: For investigative purposes, we dutifully watched the entire series of movies related to this Anomaly. As expected, every sequel after the first was terrible.
Note 2: Employees at the office building described in this file have reportedly been holding regular séances in an attempt to summon the "Ghost Girl." They should be discouraged from doing so to prevent panic or the formation of a new Anomaly.
Anomaly Characteristics
Appears as the ghost of a little girl, enjoys playing pranks, and displays no obvious malice;
Resides in a TV and can float and fly around after leaving it;
Can shape energy into physical forms for battle and temporarily trap other people in her Anomalous Realm;
Must replenish any energy consumed in battle by resting inside the TV.
Anomaly Nexus
Leaving the TV in which she resides consumes her energy. She undergoes Nullification when her energy is depleted.
Risk Assessment
Harmless.
Containment Status
Guarantor status granted.
Containment Measures
The Guarantor is responsible for her.
Supplementary Note: The Anomaly resides in an old TV and cannot remain outside it for extended periods of time. If necessary, the Anomaly can be contained by containing the TV itself.
